Starcraft Legends

Glossary

I just started on this, but it is soon to be a full glossary of every unit and what it does. If I forgot anything, or if I got a peice of information incorrect, or if you have any suggestions, E-mail me at Artanis@bestoftheweb.com

Terran Structures

The terrans are, if you haven't already guessed it, the humans of this game, and are probably the best race to start with if you're a new player.

Command Center-This is the core of the terran structures. Make SCV's here, which mine minerals and Vespene Gas, and once nearby resources have been depleted, the command center is capable of low-level flight to relocate to richer area on the map.

Supply Depot-You must continue to make these throughout the game, as the are what allows you to make additional units. Next to the figure on the screen, the left number is how many units you have, and the right number is the maximum number of units that you can have until you create additional Supply Depots. The maximum number of units allowed to each player is 200. you can not exceed that without a cheat.

Barracks-This is what makes all of your infantry ground units; the Marine, the Firebat, the Medic, and the Ghost.

Engineering Bay-This is where you get the upgrades for you infantry, weapons and armor, up to level three. The Engineering Bay is capable of low-level flight.

Refinery-Build this on top of a Vespene Geyser, and you can then command your SCV's to harvest it.

Bunker-These are small, hollowed out buildings that can contain up to four infantry units, and are used as a ground defense when placed at or near entrances.

Missile Turret-This is an automatic ground to air missile turret. It will fire at any enemy air units within range. To a degree it also serves as a detection device for borrowed or cloaked units. Cost: 100 minerals.

Academy-This is required to create Firebats and Medics, and you can research longer marine range, +50 medic energy, Optical Flare(medic ability), and restore(also a medic ability). Cost: 200 minerals.

Factory-This is where the Siege Tank, Vulture, and Goliath are made.

Starport-
This is where the Wraith, the Dropship, the Valkerie, the Science Vessel, and the Battlecruiser are made.

Armory-This is where the Vehicle plating and weapons up to level three are researched, also the ship plating and weapons, up to level three.

Science Facility-this is where the Irradiate, EMP Shockwave, and +50 Science Vessel Energy. This is what allows you to make Science Vessels. The Physics Lab and Covert-Ops are add-ons to this structure.

Machine Shop Add on-This is and add-on to the Factory. This is required to make Siege Tanks and Goliaths(Goliaths also require an Armory)

Control Tower Add on-This is the add-on for the starport. This is required for everything but the Wraith. You can also research Wraith cloaking and +50 Wraith Energy

Covert Ops Add on-This is one of the two add-ons for the Science Facility. This is required to make Ghosts, and you can research Ghost cloaking, lockdown(which temporarily disables a mechanical or robotic unit) for the Ghost, and +50 Ghost energy.

Physics Lab Add on-This is the other add-on for the Science Facility. This is required to make Battlecruisers. You can also research +50 Battlecruiser energy and Yamato gun(which shoots a very powerful energy blast that does around 200 damage).

Com Sat(Communication Sattelite)-This requires an Academy to make, and is like a mobie detecor. It is attached to your Command Center, and it takes 50 energy to make one sweep of the ComSat. Once selected, you can veiw any one screen of the map by activating it where the targeting cursor is. Can sometimes be used as a scout.

Nuclear Silo-This is an add-on for the Command Center. Use this to make nuclear missiles that the ghost can go out and target for you. A nuclear missile costs 200 minerals and 200 vespene gas, and takes up 8 on teh supply number.

Terran Units
SCV-This is the unit that harvests the minerals and vespene gas needed to produce units and structures throughout the game. These are made at the Command Center. It's generally a good idea to have at least 12-15 of these on minerals, and 4 on each Refinery.
Hit Points-60
Cost-50 minerals

Marine-This is the basic unit of the Terran race. It can attack both air and ground units. They are made at a Barracks.
Hit Points-4O
Cost-50 Minerals

Firebat-This unit can be made once an academy has been built. It does exceptionally well against low hit point infantry, such as the Zergling. They are also very effective againt Protoss because their flamethrower affects multiple enemies; anything within the streams path.
Hit Points-50
Cost-50 minerals 25 Vespene gas

Medic-This can be made once an academy has been created. They can heal injured infantry units during a battle, or after one. Generally, every unit of energy that the medic uses is equal to 3 Hidt Points healed.
Hit Points-60
Cost-50 minerals 25 Vespene gas

Ghost-This unit has normal firepower, but when researched it has Lockdown, Cloak, and if a nuclear missile has been created, there is the option of Nuke. This is the only unit you can use to target to for a nuclear missile. These are also used in a defensive role(most of the time when against a computer) when against large amounts of tanks, Wraiths, Carriers, and just about any mechanical unit. Even when upgraded, the Ghost has only 250 energy, and Lockdown cost 100 energy to use. Nuking costs no energy, but cloaking costs about one unit of energy per second, and every time its activated, it takes away 25 energy(I guess that's an "initialization" fee).

Vulture-This can be made once a factory has been constructed. This hovercycle is equipped with exploding canister bombs, which do a good amount of damage to a Marine or Zergling, Both of them able to be killed in two shots. The vulure also goes undetected by spider mines, because it can hover over them.
Hit Points-80
Cost-75 Minerals

Siege Tank-The Siege Tank can be made once a Machine Shop has been built. A good addition to an attack force, but the tanks real edge in battle is it's Siege Mode; in this mode the tank becomes immobile, but shoots out its shock cannon, a powerful blast similar to the Yamato Cannon, but cost no energy, and does less damage. The Siege Tank when in Siege Mode cannot attack close range, and cannot attack air period, making the Wraith, Zealot, Zergling, and other close range attack units are effective against the Siege Tank.
Hit Points-150
Cost-150 Minerals 100 Vespene gas

Goliath-The Goliath is an all-around decent unit, being the equivelent to the Dragoon. It can attack both air and ground, using a 25mm Machine gun for it's ground attack, and Charon Missiles for it's air. This is made once a Factory and an Armory have both been constructed. I personnaly think the Goliath is a very good addition to the Terran force, but that's just me.
Hit Points-125
Cost-100 Minerals 50 Vespene gas

Wraith-This is the basic air unit for the Terran. It can be made at the Starport immediately after it is constructed. It can attack both air and ground, air to air gamini missiles for air, and a 50mm laser blaster for ground. When researched it can gain the cloaking ability which makes it useful in the early game against the Protoss who have the worst detection in the early game; just avoid Photon Cannons.
Hit Points-120
Cost-150 Minerals 100 Vespene gas

Dropship-This air vehicle can be used to carry all types of ground units over impassible terrain. It can also be used to transport troops behind enemy lines for a sneak attack, or for faster movement of armies.
Hit Points-200
Cost-100 Minerals 100 Vespene gas

Valkerie-This missile frigate is made at the starport, after a control tower has been made. On the one-player, it is only available to the brood war expansion. It can only attack air units, shooting out 4 sets of two H.A.L.O. missiles each. When fully upgraded, these are an excellent addition to an attack force.
Hit Points-200
Cost 150 Minerals 100 Vespene gas

Science Vessel-This can be made at the Starport once a Science Facility has been made. They are detectors, and once researched, can have multiple abilities, like Irradiate, EMP Shockwave, Defense Matrix, and +50 Energy. Hit Points-150 Cost-150 Minerals 225 Vespene gas

Battlecruiser-This giants are the strongest hitters in the terran's air type arsenal. Just like any other unit, though, it has it's advantages and disadvantages, it's very slow when compared to any other air type units, it cost a whole lot, and if it is locked down, there goes 400 minerals and 300 Vespene gas. Also, it takes up 8 on the supply limit, so mostly, when you have an army of battlecruisers, that's all you have. On the other hand, they can attack both ground and air, they have 400 Hit Points, so they can take quite a beating, and when fully upgraded a fleet of two or three of these can kill.
Hit Points-400
Cost-400 Minerals 300 Vespene gas

Zerg Structures
Hatchery-This, to some respects, is like the Terrn Command Center. It spontaneously generates up to 3 larva, which are then used to mutate into the various basic Zerg units. Many of the Zerg units, though, can "morph", develop into new units without larva. This cost extra resources and adds to your supply, though. The hatchery can be mutated into a Lair once a Spawning Pool has been created, and then to a Hive once a Queen's Nest has been made.Hit Points-1250
Cost-300 Minerals

Extractor-This is the same as the Terran Refinery. This is used to collect Vespene gas.
Cost-50 Minerals
Hit Points-600
Spawning Pool-This must be made to create Zeglings. This is generally the first structure to be created. You can research faster Zergling speed(Metabolic Boost, 100 M. 100 V.) or Adrenal Glands(faster Zergling attack, 200 M. 200 V.) here.
